Mt Aspiring Lodge
Tititea Outdoor Education Centre is based in the East Matukituki Valley on the outskirts of Mt Aspiring National Park. The old Mt Aspiring homestead was offered to the school in 1969 when the Aspinall’s shifted to their new homestead at Glenfinnan. Since then the facility is administered by a trust consisting of school representatives and the Aspinall family.
The facility is arguably unique in New Zealand. Unlike many Outdoor Education Centres, Tititea has been built, maintained and redeveloped by the Aspinalls, staff, parents, the community and students. It has a personal touch to it that continues to draw commitment and visits from many ex students. For most, a certain magic happens up there that is indefinable and this magic draws people back to the stunning beauty, flourishing fauna and flora, birdlife and opportunities to explore the valleys, mountains and snows in all weathers.

Who Goes To MT Aspiring
The High School offers many opportunities to visit the Centre. All year 10 students take part in a 5 day camp based at the Centre which introduces them to adventure activities, teamwork and develops their confidence as a class. Year 12 students visit the area on Biology field trips or on Outdoor Education Search and Rescue camps. In November, year 12 students can opt into a leadership training programme which trains them to act as leaders during their final year at school and encourages them to commit back to the school community through various service options that include
- leading peer support activities and induction courses for form three students
- acting as camp leaders on form four Mt Aspiring camps.
- Working in the foreign student support programme
- Acting as peer tutors or mediators
Form seven students take part in landscaping and work related activities as part of industry unit standard qualifications for some courses.
In addition the school offers the facility for hire to other groups and markets programmes, the challenge ropes course, and facilitators in association with this via Tititea Learning Adventures. Groups have included management and corporate training clients, the Special Education Service, violinists and a score of others diverse groups.
