Lake Dunstan Aquatic Weed Spraying April/May 2024
Boat-based aquatic weed spraying is scheduled to be carried out on Lake Dunstan using the herbicide diquat.

This work is being notified from Thursday, 11th April 2024 and may continue to Friday, 3rd May 2024. The work will likely only take two days to complete. This work will not be carried out on weekends or public holidays.

The following sites will be targeted for treatment on Lake Dunstan.

  • Annan Inlet
  • Bannockburn Inlet
  • Bendigo Boat Ramp & Approaches
  • Champagne Gully Ramp & Ski Lane
  • Cromwell Swimming Beach
  • Dairy Creek
  • Jacksons
  • Lowburn Boat Harbour
  • Lowburn Inlet
  • McNulty's Inlet
  • Northburn Ski Lane
  • Old Cromwell Town & Boat Ramps
  • Weatherall Creek and Burton Creek
  • Pisa Mooring

Diquat in gel form will treat aquatic weeds in the lake. This work depends on suitable weed, water, and weather conditions; therefore, the timing is subject to change without notification.

We recommend a 24-hour stand-down on swimming, fishing and taking water for irrigation or domestic supply once the spraying is complete according to the label recommendations.

We have attached the diquat factsheet produced by NIWA. This gives an overview of how and why we use diquat as a tool for restoration.

If you have any questions about this work or would like someone added to the mailing list, please email or call us on 0800 638 943 and keep up to date with treatment progress closer to the time on the LINZ website.

An update will be sent at the start of next week to provide an update on when we will likely spray within the notification period.
