Wånaka Safe Campaign

Important Message from Nicola Jacobsen, Principal Te Kura o Tititea Mount Aspiring College, Wānaka

Tēnā koutou e ngā tumuaki o Te Waipounamu,

As we head into the New Year summer period, we know many South Island teens may be making their way to Wānaka to celebrate.

As the local Tumuaki | Principal, at Te Kura o Tititea Mount Aspiring College, I respectfully request your support in sharing our ‘Safe Summer’ information with your school whānau.

I sit on an interagency group, Path Wānaka | Ara ki Wānaka, which works in collaboration with Wānaka Police and QLDC. Each year we put together a campaign to provide education and support around safe behaviour over the new year period.

Our ‘Safe Summer’ campaign offers practical tips for parents and teens on how to prepare for a fun, safe, and respectful New Year experience - reinforcing the vital and important role parents still play, even if it’s from afar!

Our aim is simple: The ‘5C’s – Courage - Communication - Consent - Connection - Courtesy.

Could you please include our short blurb, video clips and a social tile in your term 4 newsletters/FB app posts, to point families to our resource hub. You’ll find quick downloads for parents (hosting checklists, consent info), tips for teens, and links used locally over the New Year period. It’s copy-paste ready, so your comms team won’t need to reinvent the wheel.

Ngā mihi nui for backing a respectful and safe summer for our rangatahi - whether they’re visiting Wānaka, or calling this home.  If you need anything specifically tailored for your own community, please get in touch, we’d be delighted to support you.

Ngā mihi mahana | Warmest wishes,

Nicola Jacobsen

Principal, Te Kura o Tititea Mount Aspiring College, Wānaka.
