Eddie Adams (Year 12) has had a great summer of mountain bike racing with some excellent results to date.

Beginning in November, Eddie won the Nevis Gutbuster - a 75km ride from Garston to Bannockburn through the Nevis Valley, coming in almost 15 minutes ahead of his next competitor in a time of 3 hours and 1 minute. Eddie then competed in the National XC (Cross Country) series in January with races in Oamaru, Christchurch and Pirongia in the North Island. He placed 2nd, 1st and 1st in those races respectively to take the National Series Title for U19 boys.

Last weekend the National Championships were held at Coronet Peak. On Saturday Eddie competed in the XCO where he placed 3rd in U19. While disappointed to not be able to take the title he bounced back the next morning to comfortably win the short course champs (XCC) for U19 boys and finish 11th overall.

Eddie’s sister Paige (Year 9) also raced in the XC for U15 Girls and was placed 3rd too. Paige also won the National XC series for U15 Girls with two wins.

Eddie's next event is the Prospector, a local three day stage race in Alexandra - where he will line up with racing partner - Ben Oliver (Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist) as they compete against a strong field of riders. A week later  Eddie is heading to Brisbane to compete against the Aussies in the Oceania MTB Champs on 19 March.

Well done Eddie!
