Finn Butcher
Dunstan High school would like to acknowledge the recent success of Finn Butcher who was named in the 2024 Olympic team to compete in K1 and Kayak Cross.

Finn attended Dunstan for five years of highschool. We are very lucky that when he is home in Alexandra he often gives up his time and knowledge to work with our young and aspiring paddlers. We wish Finn all the best leading into the Olympics and of course for the Olympics themselves.

Below is Finn’s Bio from the official NZ Team page.

EVENT: Canoe Slalom: Men's K1 and Men's Kayak Cross

Canoe slalom athlete Finn Butcher grew up in Alexandra, Central Otago, hailing from a family of adventure racers.

He began paddling aged nine at a ‘have a go' day on a local river and immediately fell in love with the sport, developing into an elite athlete over the years.

Butcher was the New Zealand K1 reserve for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and has continued to improve his ability and world ranking since then.

At the 2023 World Championships he gained the Olympic quota spot, finishing 13th in K1 and 11th in Kayak Cross. At the 2023 World Cup on the Paris Olympic course, he won a silver in Kayak Cross.

Paris 2024 will be Butcher's first Olympic Games.
