October 2-3rd saw 5 members of the Dunstan High School Clay Target Team attend the North Island and National Secondary Schools Championships. Adding COVID to the mix, the schools throughout New Zealand were divided into bubbles shooting at different venues in New Zealand.

Dunstan headed down to Invercargill to join the Otago/Southland bubble, where they shot in great weather and with no rain in sight.

Day 1 was the North Island Championships, Blair Sutherland, Kohen Bryant Saunders, Clay Leckie, Ben Tucker and Ryley Goodlass, all shot very well, improving their scores as the day went on. Kohen had a fantastic day which included a shoot off of over 130 targets, mainly shooting by himself. This is very hard to do as you need to concentrate and you are unaware of how the other shooters are going, as they are elsewhere in New Zealand.

Results for North Island Championships are as follows

Kohen 3rd in Single Rise

Kohen 2nd in Single Barrel and Clay made the shoot off but did not place

Blair and Kohen 3rd in the Teams Event for Skeet

Kohen made the Otago Fish and Game Team

Kohen won the North Island DTL High Gun.

Day 2 was the National Secondary School Championships, again the team did very well, with great scores for the day and another successful day for Kohen.

Results for the National Secondary School Championships are as follows

Kohen 1st in Single Rise and Clay made the shoot off but did not place, Kohen was 2nd in the Kilwell Cup for Single Rise

Kohen 1st in Point Score, and also made the Boys South Island Team for Point Score

Kohen 3rd in Skeet and made the South Island Skeet Team

Kohen won the National DTL-Skeet Aggregate High Gun.

It is also to be noted that these results are pending as the Auckland Schools still need to shoot once they get into COVID Level 2 and have till the 18/19th December to do this. It is now a waiting game to see if these results change, but Kohen has had a great finish to the 2021 Secondary Schools Competition.
