Equestrian Celebrations - NZ High School Challenge
Xavier and Sky Sanders have had a successful season in their chosen disciplines, earning them a spot in the NZ High School Team which saw them heading North to Whangarei with their horses to compete over the Christmas period and then again in Term One, competing in a North/South Challenge in Omarama and Mataura.

Xavier was selected for Novice Bull Ride and Breakaway Roping and Sky was selected for Barrel Racing and Breakaway Roping.

Also Cody Robinson, who competed in one of the three South Island Challenges in Mataura in Breakaway, also rode for one of the North Island riders, (Will Potts, Breakaway Roping), who could not make it down for the competition; well done, Cody.

Xavier finished the season, after 34 competitions up and down the country, 2nd in New Zealand in Novice Bull Ride and 2nd Jnr All Round Cowboy. Xavier and Sky also finished 3rd equal in NZ in the Junior Breakaway Roping.

Both Xavier and Sky finished their season two weekends ago at the Mad Bull series, where they both qualified for the finals earlier in the season. Sky won the Junior Barrel Racing title and Xavier placed 2nd in the Novice Steer Ride final. Sky, at the end of the season, was also selected to represent Central Otago and Southern in the South Island Barrel Racing Championships, after finishing in the top three in both the Open and Junior divisions on two horses. Well done, guys, on your achievements this season and good luck for the Trans Tasman Challenge, which is being tentatively planned for later in the year in Australia.
