The night started out with me being shown how to do an equipment check which included making sure all the trucks had the right equipment and were ready for a callout. Then we joined six medical school students from Otago University and travelled to Fulton Hogan. The Fire Department had set up a car crash scenario and placed me and some other volunteers into. Next they cut us out of cars by taking off the doors then cutting off the roof. The overall experience was great and it has led me to seriously consider becoming a firefighter. I would like to thank Russel Anderson and the Alexandra Fire Brigade for giving me the opportunity to go along for a look.
